about

A new collaboration between Guinea-born Falle Nioke and Swedish artist sir Was.

"In October 2018 I was on a train from London to Margate to meet this singer called Falle Nioke. I didn’t know much about him except the 30 seconds of sound snippet I had heard from a cellphone speaker where he was singing on a track. Those 30 seconds caught me. I was in search of something new. Something else than myself and my wish came true.

We met in a slightly cold white room - a rehearsal space/studio; said hi and pretty much just started to jam straight away - Falle singing and playing the Ngoni (african harp).

His voice was powerful and at the same time very soft and fragile, rich and full of overtones. It filled the room. I was behind a drum kit and from there we started making music together. To me it felt like neither of us really new what the other one was expecting from this session. A walk into the unknown.

The reason that makes me want to make music.
That first jam could have been all and that would have been fine but as it happened we started to record and here we are. An EP called Marasi."
